Sci-fi fans, this one is for you.

Sci-fi fans, this one is for you.

Fans of science fiction, we’ve got news for you – Australia’s premier sci-fi and fantasy film festival, Fantastic Planet, is finally back! This marks the seventh year of this outrageous event.

If you’re a seasoned pro, you probably already know the best place to stay is at The Macleay Hotel – you get the best of both worlds when you stay here because this way you can explore the festival one day, and downtown Sydney the next. However, if this is your first time now you know the secret to having the best time not just at the festival, but during your stay in Sydney.

What to expect at the festival

Here’s some more information about Fantastic Planet to keep your energy and excitement up – although we understand that’s not very hard to do. The event is always filled with delightful surprises as the founders of the occasion also brought you Australia’s horror film festival, A Night of Horror International Film Festival.

As such, this festival showcases over 100 screenings of films from a variety of genres including: sci-fi, horror, fantasy, thriller and cult films. There’s a little something for everyone with this genre selection. Truly, there’s no telling where these filmmakers are going to take you – but we do know you’re in for a wild ride. Once you’ve had your fill of all the action – and movie popcorn – audiences can meet and mingle with some of the filmmakers at the Q&A sessions and after parties. Now for the event specifics:

  • When: Thursday November 24 to Sunday December 4 2016
  • Where: 261-263 King Street Dendy Cinema Newtown, Newtown NSW 2042
  • Who: Australian and international filmmakers (and you!)
You never know what you're going to expect from the filmmakers. You never know what you’re going to expect from the filmmakers.

Don’t forget where you are!

Yes, this film festival is incredibly exciting, but don’t forget, you’re in Sydney, Australia. This means you need to take advantage of your surroundings! Be sure to book some extra time to make sure you can do all the fun activities and sight-seeing around this exciting city.

We think you’ll particularly like the Sydney Observatory – the place where you can go, gaze at the stars and spend some serious time dreaming up screenplay ideas for your film contribution to next year’s Fantastic Planet Film Festival! Best of all, this attraction is just a short distance from your suite at The Macleay Hotel.
