Christmas Tree with Decorations

Come experience Christmas in Sydney.

We might be biased, but there’s just nowhere in the world that does Christmas better than Sydney. The holiday spirit can be found in every nook and cranny of our city! While it’s always a good time to come visit Sydney, right before Christmas is just that little bit more special.

Come see what’s happening nearby us here at The Macleay Hotel – there’s lots of Christmas cheer to be had!

Where to find the best Christmas trees

The Christmas tree. It’s the staple of the holiday, and when decorated right, can be utterly breathtaking. Well, make no mistake all, Sydney decorates Christmas trees so well, they’ll be dancing in your dreams right next to the sugar plums. Your first stop should be the Martin Place Christmas Tree. This 21 metre high tree is decorated to perfection, it’s the ideal place for a Christmas selfie! Plus, every night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., there is a live choir singing your favourite seasonal songs.

You know it’s going to be lit (literally)!

To note, Martin Place is going to be decorated by Bulgari – light displays which have been featured in Hong Kong and Rome in the past. So you know it’s going to be lit (literally)!

Then head to QVB’s jaw dropping Swarovski tree. At 24 metres high, and covered with 85,000 Swarovski crystals and 65,000 lights, it looks like a gift from angels. Of course, as you wander around the streets of Sydney, you’ll see so many more tree displays – these are just some of the standouts that we think are extra special.

Sydney’s best light shows

In Australia, we might not have a white Christmas, but we sure do know how to put on a spectacular light show! Just venture down the Boulevard of Light in Pitt Street Mall. Here, you can pick up some last minute gifts while gazing at the amazing canopy of lights. Every Thursday evening, this shopping experience also includes a live choir as well.

Stopping by St Mary’s Cathedral is an absolute must – this light spectacle illuminates the entire front of the church and will feature scenes from the Nutcracker amongst other seasonal images. Once you’re done here, jingle all the way down to Sydney Town Hall and see the light show brightening up the exterior of their building. This year, other historic buildings are joining in on the fun – Santa crawl your way to The Galeries, MLC Centre and David Jones.

Come spend the Christmas season with us here in Sydney. Book your stay at The Macleay Hotel and we’ll make sure you have an extra special holiday!
