Do you love tennis? Well good news, it's almost time for the Apia International!

Calling all tennis fans! It's almost that time of year again. Just after the rush and the excitement of the holiday season, comes the rush and excitement of the always thrilling, never disappointing Apia International! Sydney hosts tons of major sporting events every year, but this is one of the big ones on the 2017 calendar. And we can see why – here at The Macleay Hotel, we love a good, tactical game of tennis.

While you can follow along with the matches online, wouldn't you rather be there to witness it for yourself? Spend Christmas in Sydney and roll right into the New Year for these games.

Apia International Sydney

From January 8 – 14, you have to be in Sydney to catch all the action. This year's venue will be none other than the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre. You know the competition is going to be fierce when players like Dominic Thiem and Victor Troicki, and Angelique Kerber and Svetlana Kuznetsova are going to be there!

We've also got some fun facts to share about the open – just in case you don't already know! Otherwise known as the New South Wales Open, this is one of the oldest tournaments in the world. It began all the way back in 1885.

Come watch the pros and then play a game yourself here in Sydney. Come watch the pros and then play a game yourself here in Sydney.

Check out the Olympic Park

This is also your chance to visit the Olympic Park, home to the Summer Games in 2000. If you can remember all the way back to 2000, you can probably recall that there were some pretty exciting moments here in Sydney. Reminisce on times past, and explore the rest of the park! The venue offers plenty of tours that will tell you everything you need to know about the venues, and provides ample activities so you can turn into an Olympian yourself – or at least try to.

Play for yourself

Itching to get on the court after you've seen a couple matches? Don't worry, we love a good game of tennis too, so we know the best spots to play. Here's a list of places around Sydney that you can stop by for a hit – just don't forget your racket!

  • Alexandria Park
  • Beaconsfield Park
  • Prince Alfred Park
  • Turruwul Park
  • St James Park

Now that is an action packed weekend! Don't forget to book your accommodation with us here at The Macleay Hotel – you'll need a cosy bed to curl up in that isn't too far from all the fun.
