Come check out what all the fuss is about around Sydney Fest.

A better question would be, what isn’t Sydney Fest?

Sydney is one of the world’s most famous cities, and as such, Australians thought it would be important to celebrate it! Come January, this crazy city kicks off the new year and summer in full party mode.

From January 7 – 29, Sydney throws together all the different types of festivals you can imagine – everything from burlesque and contemporary dance demonstrations to indie rock and smooth jazz concerts.

Let’s find out a little bit more about just some of the acts and events that you’ll be able to check out while you visit. Of course, we suggest you book a stay with us during the month of January so you can experience even the things we don’t mention here!

Theatre events

There are tons of different style theatre shows you can catch, but the show we’re looking forward to in particular is Declan Donnellan’s “Measure for Measure”. This show combines a performance between acclaimed international theatre company Cheek By Jowl and Moscow’s Pushkin Theatre, portraying a gripping story of the government, love and justice. It will play from January 7-11, so don’t miss out by coming later in the month!

Dance events

You’ll be moved by a variety of dance styles – everything from contemporary to traditional tribal dances will be performed during the month. But if you feel so compelled to get up and dance yourself, you can head to one of the public dance parties like Glitterbox! As the name suggest, you’ll be surrounded by confetti cannons and boogying people.

Cabaret and comedy events

From January 6-22, an Aussie Cirque du Soleil and RuPaul’s Drag Race will join forces to create an incredibly unique spectacle. You’ll witness everything from outrageous acrobats to outrageous burlesque costumes. Truly, it’s something you need to see to believe.

Music events

Pretty much every style of music is accounted throughout the month so you’ll get a little taste of everything. Performances include PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Jessy Lanza and music that captures the soul of Sydney. It’s a great time to introduce yourself to new music!

There’s no better time than January to visit Sydney, and because it’s likely going to be a very busy, entertaining month, we suggest you book a room with us here at The Macleay Hotel as soon as possible! We give you a beautiful place to stay with rooms that overlook the harbour, but also give you a little break from all the commotion.
