Here's how to explore Sydney all by yourself.

Solo travelling. It’s a thought that scares a lot of people, but an experience that everyone should try at least once in your life. These days, it feels like we’re constantly connected to friends and family via social media, but sometimes it’s just nice to unplug and get away from it all.

Taking time for yourself is absolutely necessary every now and then. Just think about it: no compromises and no feeling pressure to entertain someone else – your only goal is to please yourself. You can’t pass up that opportunity, now can you?

That said, we think there is no place better than the land Down Under to embark on your first solo trip. Begin by treating yourself to a cosy suite with us at The Macleay Hotel and then check out this itinerary of all the amazing things you can do in Sydney by yourself.

1. The Royal Botanic Garden

Are you a day dreamer? If so, then you’re going to love strolling around in the fresh air at the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. Come get lost amongst all the sweet smelling, exotic flowers. If you’re curious about the different flower species, you can always opt to take a tour and learn more about the flora from the garden experts. It’s the perfect spot to let your imagination run wild in!

2. Bondi Beachin’ it

A day at the beach with a frosty cocktail and a good book – what could be better than that? Bondi Beach is one of the world’s most famous sunning spots so it’s not one that you can pass up. If you get restless at the beach, don’t worry, it has tons of activities to do – so many that it would be really hard to get bored with. Experience everything from surf lessons to the Bondi-Coogee Walk when you visit this picturesque beach.

3. The Rocks Markets

Do you always find yourself rushed by your friends when you visit your favourite markets? When you all have interest in different vendors, it can be hard to keep everyone happy at once. Therefore, the best time to visit any market is when you are alone! The Rocks Market is a nice, relaxed environment with everything from original artwork, to unique clothing and delicious food. If you need a second look at the clothes that you’re trying on, strangers can offer an honest source of opinion, so ask away!

4. Take a selfie with a koala bear

Okay, but if you’re going to interact with anyone it should be a cuddly koala bear. Head to Taronga Zoo for a hug and a selfie with a koala. This destination is only 11km away from your accommodation with us so you can’t skip it. Of course, the fun doesn’t end with these fuzzy tree huggers – you can easily spend a whole day learning about the animal kingdom that this zoo houses.

5. Sydney Tower

If you’re looking for a beautiful, unique view of the city then you simply must head to the top of the Sydney Tower and do the Skywalk. When you get to the top, you’ll likely be rendered speechless, so you really don’t need the company of someone else! But if you want to experience total peace and serenity (nirvana, even perhaps) then you should try one of the SKY classes – a yoga class on the Observation Deck.

And there you have it, now you’re ready to go out there and be the strong, independent person you know you are! Don’t forget to book your stay with us here at The Macleay Hotel and your trip will be complete.
