As Australia's largest and most vibrant metropolis, Sydney is unsurprisingly home to a flourishing creative scene. If you're lucky enough to be staying in central Sydney, you'll be in an ideal position to explore all the events that are going on, including Art Month. Here's what you need to check out.

What is Art Month?

Art Month is a contemporary art festival held throughout March at various venues around Sydney. Over the course of the month, a packed program full of openings, workshops, exhibitions, tours, panel discussions and much more will be taking place. There's plenty happening just down the road from The Macleay Hotel, so you won't even need to travel far!

Here are some highlights within a 20 minute walk of your accommodation. Not only will you save on public transport costs, you'll also save on entry fees – these events are all free to attend!

1. Ceramics at Stanley Street Gallery

The Stanley Street Gallery in Darlinghurst is hosting a special ceramics exhibition that'll be running until March 25. 'The White Room: Contemporary Ceramics' exhibition will feature a selection of minimalist pottery created by a variety of talented Australian and international artists. Get ready to be inspired to craft your own ceramic creations!

2. Postmodern landscapes at ARO Gallery

Until March 19, 'All the myths we make: Landscape in a post-truth world' will be showing at ARO Gallery on William Street in Darlinghurst. This is one for those with a penchant for postmodern art. The artworks on display aren't traditional oil paintings in the style of Monet or Rembrandt; they're abstract, digitally-manipulated creations that will make you look at landscapes in a completely different way.

3. David Ralph opening at Gallery 9

If you're keen to attend an exhibition opening, make your way to Gallery 9 on Darley Street in Darlinghurst on March 22. Australian painter David Ralph, who's based in Germany, uses his work to explore the urban environment. If you're fascinated by human-built space and architecture, then this will be an interesting exhibit to explore.

There are heaps of other exciting events taking place across Sydney this March, and there are plenty more to come in upcoming months as well. Make the most of Sydney's artistic culture by staying at a serviced apartment at The Macleay Hotel. You'll be right in the middle of it all!
