What to do in the rain in Sydney.

What to do in the rain in Sydney.

In Sydney there's absolutely loads of awesome activities you can do that are inside, meaning you don't have to worry if it starts raining on your holiday. Here are some of the best, all within easy distance of your Macleay Hotel room. There's a bunch of transport links close by as well (including a bus stop directly outside the hotel and Kings Cross station less than a 10 minute walk), so you won't even get wet while you're exploring.

1) Sea Life Aquarium

If you're not one for scuba diving or snorkelling but still find marine life fascinating, Sydney's Sea Life aquarium is a great place to spend a rainy afternoon. There are over 13,000 different animals from over 700 species, making it one of the largest aquariums in the world. Many of the exhibitions are interactive, including the Penguin Exhibition, which features a boat ride through Antarctic-like scenery.

The aquarium is just a 35 minute walk or 30 minute bus ride from the Macleay Hotel.

2) Art Gallery of New South Wales

Established in 1871, the Gallery of New South Wales is an excellent option if you're wanting to get your culture on. It presents both domestic and international artists, and a range of works, including contemporary pieces, colonial paintings and art by the European old masters.

Visited by over 1 million people annually and only a 10 minute bus ride from the Macleay Hotel, it's one of the premier galleries in Australia and shouldn't be missed.

3) St. Mary's Cathedral

This cathedral was founded in 1821 and is one of Sydney's most treasured historic buildings. It's also one of the finest examples of English-style Gothic architecture to be found outside of England, and is certainly worth a visit if you're into either history or architecture.

Make sure you don't miss the beautiful terrazzo mosaic flooring located in areas throughout the building, or the English-crafted stained glass windows. You can set out from Macleay Hotel and be there in 15 minutes if you take the train.

4) Museum of Sydney

The Museum of Sydney tells the stories of the people and events that have shaped the city.

The Museum of Sydney stands on the site of Australia's first Government house, and aims to tell the stories of the people and events that have shaped the city.

You can get to the museum from your hotel room at Macleay by train, which takes 20 minutes, or alternatively it takes about 30 minutes to walk there. Entry is only $12 for adults, and free for children under 5.
