The Sydney Opera House is a universal treasure, honored and admired globally, and protected as a world heritage by the UNESCO. It is a performing arts center that consists of several theatres and performing centers.

It is located in the Sydney Central Business District (CBD), in the premises of the Sydney Harbor, adjacent to the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Being at a focal point inside the Sydney Harbor, it has a dominant structure that can be seen from anywhere in the city.

Perhaps the most significant feature of the Sydney Opera House is its unique architectural style and structural design. The Opera House premises consists of three interlocking shells. Opened in 1973, the Opera House is considered one of the great architectural pieces ever built in the 20th century. It was designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, after being selected as the winning design at an international design competition in 1957.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the busiest performing arts centers in the world, where its multi performance venues host more than 1500 performances every year, which are attended by more than 1.2 million spectators. In addition, more than 7 million people around the world come to visit this amazing creation of architecture, each year. Despite of its name, the Sydney Opera House hosts not only Operas, but also many other musical, cultural and social events, both in national and international arena. The Sydney Opera House also has its own in-house productions and is the home to some famous Australian performing art companies - the Sydney Theatre Company, Opera Australia, the Sydney Symphony Opera and the Australian Ballet.
